Well. It's not like I was gone. I just wasn't blogging. I'm a terrible blogger. You all know that.

I won't promise to be a better blogger... cause I tried that and it doesn't work. I will however promise to think about it more? Yea. Who knows. In any case, I'm here now and that is what matters right?

I've been making things... lots of things. I'll post some pictures. I'm working on a couple patterns and I'll be posting them here soon.

My most recent projects have been some uteruses. It started out as a mojo gift for a friend in a Facebook group who was having a hysterectomy... then as a mojo for a friend who was trying to get pregnant...then for some friends who wanted them as political statements.
There's a bunch of other stuff too...but too many pics to post.
LOL

I'm gonna try (no really this time I mean it!) to get posts out more frequently than once a year. That being said, let's catch up.

What I did this year :

*Turned 30 ( and it wasn't so bad)

My birthday drink

*Met a fantastic guy (My hard to impress mother calls him Mr. Wonderful so that should tell you something)

Damn that's a good looking cowboy!

* Got knocked up! (Baby #3 coming September 2013)

*Moved to Oregon

*Started blogging again

So there you have it folks. my life in 20 seconds.

I'll be back later to add a few projects and photos of said projects...alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-42454745198940405792012-03-22T09:00:00.001-07:002012-03-22T09:01:52.738-07:00Am I Pinteresting? Why yes. Yes.I.Am.Have you heard of Pinterest? Well of course you have. It's all the rage these days. It is. SO ADDICTING. It's almost as bad as that weekend I spent in 2005 glued to the PS2 and The Sims. Or that week last year I spent with Portal and youtube tutorials.

If you haven't heard of it, then its time to crawl out from under whatever rock you're hiding under and join in the fun. Pinterest is basically a big gifreakingnourmos bulletin board. The whole world is in on it. You find and pin interesting things from the internet. Places you would like to go. Recipes you would like to try. People you would like to do. I mean Things you would like to do. Ya. Thats it. Thats what I meant. lol. Funny posters, funny videos. Like the one with Kristen Bell and the Sloth.

It's also a wealth of info and resources, ideas and inspirations for crafty folks such as ourselves. Lots of patterns, neat ideas and pretty inspirations for knitting ,crocheting, sewing and scrapbooking....etc. ETC.

Pinterest has become not just a fun thing to do, but also an inspiration for bloggers. A good friend of mine started a really cool blogging project called Find, Pin and DO! I'm also a guest blogger over there (although I haven't ACTUALLY posted an entry yet...but I will. Soon.)

So check out Pinterest. and Find, Pin and Do!alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-63451215362368678052012-03-07T16:38:00.000-08:002012-03-07T16:38:39.613-08:00Airport Security and Knitting needles. A comedy. So about 45 minutes ago I went through security at Sacramento International Airport (in Sacramento CA in case anyone happens to care).

In my purse ( a Namaste Monroe bag, again...in case anyone cares...and because I kind of want to show off that I have a Namaste Monroe bag) I have my Puff knitting and also two skeins of Red Heart Soft, a set of size 9 dpns, 32 inch Circular size 9, and the size 4 dpns required for puff knitting.

I am no stranger to air travel. I have flown several times with knitting and knitting related paraphernalia. I've never been questioned or challenged about anything.

Today was different.

So I'm going through the security line and as I walk up to the little table where all the trays are, I unzip my boots (shut up. I know, I shouldn't have worn knee high boots for air travel this day in age...but whatever they are hot and I love them.) and start gathering all of my pocket stuff to put in the little tray bucket thing. I walk up to the table, put all of my stuff in the trays, and lay my purse down in the tray (It's an Effing Namaste bag. I'm not putting this thing down on that dirty conveyor belt). I walk through like everyone else, raise my arms and get magnetically violated. After said violation I walk over to collect my stuff and the large busted, long armed woman with the metal detector wand is looking right at me.

Great. I've been singled out to be "randomly searched". They pull my bag out of the tray and Busty Lady starts rifling through. She gets to the center compartment and pulls out my knitting. SHE PULLED OUT MY KNITTING AND PULLED STITCHES OF THE NEEDLE IN THE PROCESS. Just for that alone, I should have gone completely batshit. You all should be watching me on the news right now.

I resisted the urge to go all Hulk on her ass, and just calmly asked her to please handle that with care. Then she comes to my bag'o puff knitting. She pulls out the DPNs and looks at me like I had a fuse sticking out of my shoe.

I eyeballed her back.

"What exactly are these for?" She asks.

"Knitting." I say.

"My grammy knits. I've never seen no Crazy lookin short sticks like this before" She says.

*sigh*

I explain the uses and advantages of DPN's and next thing I know, I have four women and one adorable and totally NOT straight Airport Security person standing around looking at my knitting needles. THEN she pulls out the puffs. OH SWEET BABY JEEZUS ON A CRACKER.

It took me 40 minutes to get through A COMPLETELY DESERTED security line because I had to explain over, and OVER again to several different people the appeal of puffs.

ON the upside. I did get two phone numbers ( of elderly grandma types...but it counts) from women who want to learn to knit and want to be directed towards the Ossim that is Ravelry.

Moral of todays story is....

Well there really isn't a moral. It's just kind of a funny story.alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-59657001480503661072012-03-03T12:25:00.000-08:002012-03-03T12:25:33.393-08:00Lazy DayI had big plans for today. I was going to CLEAN ALL THE THINGS and do ALL THE LAUNDRY and knit puffs, and finish the Big Cabled Bag of Doom.

I've not accomplished anything so far. I haven't given up on my plan...its just gotten postponed. Instead of cleaning and laundry and knitting I've been laying in bed and reading and listening to my five year old give her stuffed animals lessons on how to tell knock knock jokes. (Which is ZOMG so cute). I rarely get to just lay here on a saturday morning and do nothing...so I'm going to take advantage. The cleaning and laundry will still be here after I finish this book...maybe it will just have to wait until tomorrow. :)alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-66554228415107510902012-03-01T20:22:00.000-08:002012-03-01T20:22:16.785-08:00The Puffs. They consume me.I have like 20 different things I should be working on.

What am I doing instead?

Knitting the puffs.

Why the puffs you ask? BECAUSE THEY ARE LIKE PRINGLES. You.can't.just.eat.one.

I had a puff-astrophe a while back and 50 of my Puffs were stolen, so I made a heartfelt PLEA to my LSG and they answered. I was sent some lovely puffs (AND CANDY!) to ease my suffering.

So here is the puffage: 27 down...like a billion and a half to go.

Some of the puffs still have their tails...because I'm lazy and didn't feel like weaving in ends. lol
I'm going to be a better blogger. To get that show on the road... here is a quick breakdown of what you've missed.

I knit.
I crocheted a little.
I watched things on Netflix.
I watched things on Hulu.
I worked.
I slept.
The End.

Yep. Thats how exciting my life is folks.

I'll be back later (or tomorrow) with links to the knitting/crocheting projects and possibly some discussion of my TV habits.

Have a good day kids!alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-54282150031205319252012-02-27T23:26:00.001-08:002012-02-27T23:26:29.331-08:00It's official. I am the worst.blogger.ever.I have the worst habit of saying I will blog more...and then not doing it.

Well habits are habits because we keep doing it. Soooo...that being said.

I promise. I PROMISE I will blog more.

Starting tomorrow I am going to make a decidedly more committed effort to blog on a nearly if not daily basis.

As it is late and past my bedtime... I leave you with a link to my Knitting and Crocheting board on Pinterest.alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-6705303701143103142011-11-09T09:57:00.000-08:002011-11-09T09:57:57.755-08:00Catching up...I've been a little absent for a few months. Just not in the mood to blog. Too much going on, not enough sleep.

Now I'm back.

I'm going to attempt to post something every day. Starting with my "I'm thankful for...." every day until Thanksgiving. I know, totally cliche and played out. Buuuut it seems like the thing to do.

So I'm a week late in the posts...but I'll just play catch up.

9 things I am thankful for:

1. My children
2. My dog
3. My parents
4. My Friends
5. My yarn stash
6. My new iPhone
7. My memory foam mattress pad
8. Re-runs of The Big Bang Theory
9. Sons of Anarchy

Tune in tomorrow for more!alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-1551527549491349292011-11-09T09:52:00.000-08:002011-11-09T09:52:19.507-08:00The Giftmas knitting begins...Last year I waited until the last minute to knit christmas gifts and ended up not finishing everything I needed to make. So this year I told myself, Ok self. We are going to start early this year. We will have everything finished with PLENTY of time to spare. I sort of accomplished that.

I started my Giftmas knitting at the end of October. I thought, sure thats enough time.

Then I realized. No...its really not.

*headdesk*

Ok. So I have two shawls, four hats, two pairs of mitts and a blanket to knit in 6 weeks.

So far I have one shawl nearly completed, and nothing else started.

*sigh*alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-74521510556493728652011-08-28T13:12:00.000-07:002011-08-28T13:12:53.035-07:00Progress... I have it. *sort of*I've spent this weekend pretty dedicated to my Big Cabled Bag. I've gotten the total up to 8.5 inches completed, so only four inches of cables left, followed by about an inch of ribbing...then I've at least got the body of the bag finished. Then I have the braided I-cord straps and the bottom panel, and then the lining needs to be sewn. I'm still on the fence about adding the side pockets. I probably will, so then that will be two more panels to knit and then seam on.

Today I feel very cooped up, so I think the child and I will go for a walk this evening when it cools down. I figure a walk will at least get us out of this apartment for a while.

I think I'm going to take a break from the Bag and make a couple of puffs this afternoon/evening. Maybe that will make me feel like I've really been productive even though I haven't left my house in four days. lolalishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-2950291833662453992011-08-26T10:02:00.000-07:002011-08-26T10:02:38.333-07:00Puffs, Purses and Pox...Well my original claim to post something knitting related every day... well that didnt' so much work out how I planned.
Lately life has gotten in the way.
I've managed to knit another puff...that brings my total to 2. *sigh* I planned to make at least one a day. Maybe next week I will?

I've added a couple more rows to my big cabled purse...but I really had hoped to have it finished and ready for the lining process by now. Oh well.

My 5 year old has the chicken pox. So far she doesn't seem to have it badly, so its just spots and a lowgrade fever at this point. I'm so glad she isn't itchy. I've heard so many horror stories about the scars that can come from the Pox.

Since I will be home for the next few days, I plan to make much more progress on all projects... so stay tuned for tomorrows progress post!alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-66701833521156166642011-08-18T18:30:00.000-07:002011-08-18T18:30:04.786-07:00Resistance is Futile. You WILL KNIT THE PUFFS.So the newest craze to sweep the knitting community... Hexapuffs.

Thanks to Tiny Owl Knits the whole world is knitting the puffs.

Allow me to explain.

These are cute little hexagon shaped stuffed puffs that once hooked together will form the BeeKeepers Quilt. Or, in my case, the wall o'puffs.

I'm not really the kind to decorate with paintings or flowers or whatever other knick knacks and such that most sane 29 year olds would decorate with. I decorate with yarn. I call it Yarn Bomb Home decor. I've been inspired to create a wall of puffs instead of the quilt.

So far I have one and a half puffs done. So basically I only have 498.5 puffs left. lol

Here is Puff numero Uno with the two bags of future puffs in the background.
I constantly struggle with balancing all of the things that I have going on in my life. I'm a single parent, I work, I have a house to take care of, and a business to help my sister get off the ground.

Where do I find the time to knit? I'm trying to make knitting profitable as well, so should I put knitting higher up on the priority list? I struggle with feeling guilty when I do put down everything else and pick up my needles. I know that there are ten other things that I COULD be doing instead, but knitting is one of the few things I have in my life that I truly enjoy doing... so is it so wrong to dedicate time every day to it?

I see all of these fantastic knitters on Ravelry and around the blog world and I wonder where they find the time? How did they become so amazing and design all of these awesome patterns AND have families and jobs and lives?

I would love some actual responses to this. Where do you find the time to knit? Do you feel guilty when you take time away from other things for your crafting? Are your spouses/SO's/families supportive of your knitting/crocheting?

alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-87019645857643708032011-08-13T22:31:00.000-07:002011-08-13T22:31:40.255-07:00Big Cabled Bag...in progress. After hours and hours of searching Ravelry and the internet for a pattern for a knit purse that would fit my laptop in it, I only found one that might work, and after four failed attempts at the pattern... I decided I should just make my own dang pattern.

So I'm only about three inches into it so far...but it's going well. I don't have a picture to post yet but I will as soon as I've made a bit more progress.

It's basically just a cabled pattern on the front and back with ribbed gussets. I'll sew in an accordion style liner and a couple pockets...and it will be EPICLY AWESOME.

Stay tuned...when the pattern is finished...you'll be the first to know. alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605864581084232623.post-10706793908767548722011-08-12T21:12:00.001-07:002011-08-12T21:22:04.871-07:00Chihuahua Hoodie

Ok...here it is. My "pattern" for the Chihuahua Hoodie.

Keep in mind that these are more like general instructions, not a row by row pattern.

Measure your dog (or cat) around the stomach, from groin area (you don't want the sweater to cover that area or you will have a messy puppy/kitty) to front legs, between front legs, around neck and length of neck.

CO 48 (or # of stitches needed for your size in an even number)

k2p2 rib ( in the round) for about 1-1.5 inches keeping a marker at the beginning of the round.

Knit (in the round) for about 5 inches (or number of inches from groin to front legs).

Using the beginning of round marker as the center, place two markers on either side of the center to mark how far apart the front leg holes should be. (For my dog his legs are two inches apart, so I placed a marker an inch from center on each side).

Knit to first marker, and then as you knit the next 10 (or 15 for larger dogs) place the stitches on stitch holder or scrap yarn. Continue knitting around to 1o (or 15) stitches before second marker and repeat. Remove the two extra markers. (Leave the beginning of round marker).

Continue knitting around for about 1.5 inches.

k2p2 rib for 1-1.5 inches

Using beginning of round marker as center, count out a third of the stitches on each side of the center and place a marker.

The "top" third of the stitches will be your hood.

K2P2 to first marker.

Knit across the hood stitches placing a marker in the center, turn work and purl back. Turn and knit, turn and purl back. Move marker up each row.

On the next row Knit first stitch and then kfb in the second stitch. knit across to stitch before center, kfb increase, knit center stitch, and then kfb. Knit across to next to last stitch, kfb, knit last stitch.

Repeat increase row every right side row for about two inches.

Skip 2nd and next to last increases and continue center increases until hood is half as tall as necessary.

Knit knits and purl purls until hood is at the right height.

pick up stitches along sides of hood and k2p2 around hood and neck until neck is long enough. Bind off stitches around neck, and continue k2p2 rib around hood stitches until hood is as deep as necessary. Bind off.

I sewed bottom edges of the hood rib to the neck area to give it a good shape when folded back, but you could add a drawstring around instead by weaving a cord through the ribs.

It's such a pain in the butt to get a pullover sweater on my twitchy jumpy little chihuahua... I figured a side button sweater would be ideal. It's not too terribly cold in AZ in the winter so I also figured a "medium coverage" sweater would be good too.

I'm Alisha, I knit, I crochet, I sew, I coupon... I'm a Mom, a Sister, an Auntie and a friend.

I'm a fledgling pattern designer, although so far the only one who has gotten anything designed for them has been my chihuahua. I figured I'd start small. lol

You can find me on Ravelry (alishaknits) and eventually I'll get around to twittering and facebooking too...but for now I've got my hands full.

If you like one of my patterns and want to make it, please add it to your Ravelry projects or leave me a comment on the pattern post. I love seeing how things turn out!
alishaknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05055983359866789089noreply@blogger.com2
